Open Swims
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (activities take place in either the shallow end or the deep end of the pool, those wishing to conduct deep water activities must demonstrate their swimming skills). Lap and Exercise Swim
Great for the skilled swimmer. Swimming activity takes place in the shallow end and the deep end of the pool. Designed for swimmers will varying ability levels. Moderate and Distance swimming sections allow swimmers to swim at their own pace or execute chosen swim workouts.

Aquatic Boot Camp
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (activities take place in the shallow end of the pool those wishing to conduct deep water activities must demonstrate safe water treading skills). Aquatic Boot Camp is a high intensity water workout that combines, calisthenics, cardiovascular conditioning, core and muscle strength building along with swimming. This class innovatively uses the unique buoyancy, resistance, and movement of water. Aquatic Boot Camp offers a challenging workout that pushes individuals at their own pace.

Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (activities take place in the shallow end of the pool)Aqua Chi is a water class based from Ti Chi. Ti Chi is often called "meditation in Motion" because of its slow, graceful movements. It has been around since 500 BC. People of all ages and fitness levels can do Aqua Chi. It's a gentle, yet very effective workout. Health benefits include weight loss, muscle toning, lowering of blood pressure. Strengthens lungs, promotes proper breathing and reduces headaches. Aqua Chi fights depression and stress. It promotes better concentration and focus. Aqua Chi is good for people who suffer from back pain, arthritis, post mastectomy patients, fibromyalgia, and orthopedic problems.
NEW Water Walking/Running, Rehabilitation and Social Swimming
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (activities take place in either the shallow end or the deep end of the pool, those wishing to conduct deep water activities must demonstrate safe water treading skills).Buoyancy and water resistance are the perfect combination for low impact muscle building or for continued physical therapy. This program allows for patients to continue their learned physical therapy exercises (all necessary equipment is available) or those who choose can use this time as a wonderful social outlet while performing their desired exercises.

Senior Water Fitness

Offers a safe, comfortable, and effective way for seniors of all fitness levels to get in shape or keep in shape. This class is ideal for patients looking or a low impact workout! Senior Fitness is taught by our Senior Instructor with over thirty years of experience in physical education. Eve Phillips has developed a low impact aerobics and water fitness program that increases flexibility and balance.
Splash Aerobics
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer. (activities take place in the shallow end of the pool)Skip the sweat bands and the high priced tennis shoes. Try a refreshing aerobic workout! Splash Aerobics is a medium to high intensity class. Get a great exercise routine without the weight of the body pounding with each move.
Poolates
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (activities take place in the shallow end of the pool at a water depth sufficient to manipulate the legs without touching the pool bottom). Effective and challenging, Poolates is soothing to the mind and spirit and gentler on joints and muscles than land-based exercises. Poolates innovatively uses the buoyancy, resistance, and gentle movement of water to strengthen muscles, enhance flexibility and posture, sharpen coordination and balance, and relax body and soul. Poolates offers a challenging mind-body workout for everyone – including swimmers and other aquatic exercisers, Pilates enthusiasts, dancers, and people in post-rehab.
SCUBA DO!
Certified S.C.U.B.A divers don’t let the cold water stop you from keeping your diving skills fresh! Your families are welcome to attend and enjoy an open swim environment in the shallow end while you dive!Open Kayak

The Class includes: Basic Kayak Skills such as water entries, safety skills, swimming with paddle, surf line considerations and packing for a day trip. This class is offered as a workshop. If you are interested in learning these skills please contact the pool for scheduling arrangements.Learn to Swim Instruction
Great for the swimmer or non-swimmer (participants must register into the appropriate swimming lesson level determined by course skill requirements).These classes are offered to anyone that would like to learn how to swim. All ages welcome. Pre-registration is required. Swim Lessons are five sessions in length and offered Wednesdays and Saturdays. For a description of swim levels click here. Splash Bus
The Splash Bus is a summer swim lesson program that enables you to place your child/children (ages 6 and up) on the Splash Bus and send them away to the Alpena County Plaza Pool for learning and fun. Lifeguards are on the bus to teach songs and play games.
