Good morning everyoneI hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful summer so far! I have a couple of things to mention to help keep everyone up to date with the summer at the pool.
- I did raise the pool temperature to 85 degrees.
- We will be closed Friday July 4th in observance of the Holiday.
- We have started our new summer hours so see the attached new schedule or visit web at www.alpenaplazapool.com/summerschedule14.shtml
- we do have a Millage for the Youth & Rec that is EXTREMELY important for the pool coming up August 5th.
- The yearly maintenance for the pool closure will be Monday September 1st through Sunday September 14th, reopening Monday September 15th.
The pool water temperature was fluctuating between 83 and 84 and with that happening I felt it would be better at this time to move the temp to 84 with it fluctuating between 84 and 85. Please understand that it DOES cost money to increase the pool temperature both with electricity and added chemical costs. This is very tough for the pool to do given the fact that we are low on money. So we will see how it goes. For the 4th of July holiday we will have regular hours on the Thursday before and the Saturday after. Please make sure you have a wonderful safe holiday!
Our new summer hours did start Monday the 9th of June and I know some of you are not very happy with the daytime changes. Unfortunately any changes I make like this are made with revenue for the pool in mind and not convenience. Swim lessons this past winter were a HUGE revenue for the pool and I have spent a lot of time this spring promoting lessons in hopes of them being a huge revenue this summer. I know this first week of lessons was extremely small but I was not notified of the Summer Institute taking place the first two weeks school is out and lots of kids participate in that. I have made notes for this next summer. I also took into consideration that the swim lessons would have taken a very large portion of the shallow water and some of the deep water leaving you with very little pool to enjoy all summer and lots of noise for the better portion of your swim. With all of this in mind I chose to move the time by only 30 minutes in hopes of giving you all a much more pleasant experience at the pool. There is a millage coming up August 5th 2014 that is very important to the life of the pool. We will be having a few meetings coming up in July to try to answer any questions and help prepare us all to hopefully make this a HUGE Successful Pass so we can continue to keep the pool open. Stay tuned:)
Lastly, you all can mark your calendars for September 1 to be our annual closure for maintenance. We will re-open Monday September 15th for regular programming providing there are no unforeseen problems. Please remember that with the summer coming there will be lightning storms and the Plaza Pool will evacuate the pool whenever there is lightning within 8 miles of the pool for 15 minutes PAST the storm. The evacuation does also include the showers. Safety first!!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your time!Sincerely,
Krista MorrowAlpena Plaza Pool Director
